Amanda Sullivan, AIA, is a New York-based architect and interior designer. She approaches her projects with a keen eye for the high concept and the drive and vision to attend to every detail. The daughter of a renowned mathematician and a jeweler, Sullivan brings to her work an innate sense of geometry and a flair for color, beauty, and intricacy in design. Over her 20-year career, she has crafted interiors and furniture for the James New York hotel, the Tribeca and Soho Grand hotels, luxury New York City apartments, swank country estates, and Tom Ford’s Gucci and Tomas Maier’s Bottega Veneta flagship stores. Working closely with clients, contractors, and craftsmen, Sullivan channels a passion for problem-solving and design at all levels to forge a design language that expresses the unique objectives and aesthetics of each project.
Awed and inspired by an early trip to Versailles with her family, Sullivan designed her first furniture at age 8: a flip-up bed with storage. Classically trained as an architect at Rice University, one of the country’s finest architecture schools, Sullivan has also learned at the side of some of the most visionary minds in interior design and fashion. She honed her modernist aesthetic while working with Ricardo Bofill’s Taller de Arquitectura in Barcelona, and as design director for Bill Sofield’s Studio Sofield became adept at blending comfort, color, and style into her design vocabulary. In her own practice over the past several years Sullivan has taken on projects of all scopes and styles, from conceiving of the perfect piece of modern furniture in a single room to consulting with developers on the restoration and repurposing of an iconic landmark building.
